SECRET TO LEARNING By: Frances M. McCrory-Meservy 1957/1958

Through 8th grade I barely passed in school. Then I discovered a promise in the Bible. Jesus said his Spirit would teach me and remind me what to say.

I decided that if I read my assigned reading, did my homework, and listened in class, I could depend on the Holy Spirit to help me make good grades in school. It worked. I made As and Bs throughout high school. I graduated in the top 25% of my class.

I still depend on the Holy Spirit to teach me as I read and study any given subject. I also depend on him to help me remember things. I tell people, "if it weren’t for the Holy Spirit, I would not have a memory at all." This, in fact, is true.

If I decide to tell someone something and can’t remember the scripture to back it up, I know they are not ready to accept the information and remain silent. If scripture starts going through my head, I know it is time to tell the person because the Holy Spirit gives me the verses. It is vital that I stay in tune with the Holy Spirit when witnessing to people. Only God’s words come alive in their hearts.

For this reason, I do not memorize scripture verses. I do not want to interfere with the Holy Spirit leading me in what to say. I realize that God wants some folks to memorize scripture verses. I’m just not one of them. Let God lead you in what you should do.

John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Luke 12:11 - 12 "Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. "For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Isa 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
