COMPANY By Frances M. McCrory-Meservy July 1965

There was one guy that worked with Al who was really nice but very lonely. He had never been away from home before he joined the Navy. We let him come over a lot (about 5 days a week) because he was so homesick. He would eat supper with us and then stay too long. We tried everything to hint that he should go home now. He never caught the hints.

After about a month of this, we decided to just get up and go to bed. We figured that would be a really big statement. After we were in bed, he came in, sat on the side of the bed and started talking to us as if nothing had happened. We still laugh about that.

Anyway, Al had a long talk with him the next day. He had to explain to him that we were newly weds and needed more space. He told him he could only come over if invited and had to leave when asked the first time. We still had him over three times a week; but he went home after an hour or two without us asking.

It became a family tradition in our home to invite anyone who could not get home for a holiday to come to our house for dinner. I became really good at cooking for twenty or more people. We still have multi-lingual, inter-racial Thanksgivings. We would not have it any other way. What I know about other countries did not come out of a Geography book.

Jesus did not send me to a foreign country. He brought them to me. I have never kept my mouth shut about Him. Everyone always took seeds home: it was Godís job to make them grow. It was years later before I realized what God had been doing. We have friends all over the world.

1 Pet 4:9-10 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

John 4:37-28 "For in this the saying is true: 'One sows and another reaps.' "I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors."
