REVELATION Aug 1977 By: Frances M. McCrory-Meservy

About noon one day in August 1977, I found a grain of hope in 1 Peter 3:1-7 and decided to put it into practice. I would obey my husband and keep my mouth shut. It was very difficult because my love for him had begun to fade and I like to talk.

At 3:30 PM, Al came home and told me we had been invited to join a wife-swapping club. He thought we should join. I turned and said, "I have to go to the bathroom."

After I closed the bathroom door, I said, "Lord you showed me that ‘if I obey my husband and keep my mouth shut, you would save him.’ You also said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ Lord, I want my husband saved. I do not want to break your commandment. I am going to do what you told me to do in your Word to get my husband saved. It is up to you to take care of what Al wants me to do."

At that moment I stopped trying to be Al’s God and turned him (mind, soul and body) over to Jesus. I quit trying to change him and allowed Jesus to do what I could not do: change someone’s mind.

As I entered the living room, Al muttered, "That was the stupidest thing I have ever wanted to do. We can't do that."

Knowing I could not tell Al what happened, I found it hard to contain myself: God had heard and acted! Hope began to grow.

An apartment finally came open in Navy Housing and they moved us in the middle of September 1977. Our expenses were finally within reason.

In September, Al went into a suicidal depression and I became concerned for his soul. I started praying for him for his soul’s sake and not for my comfort. Deep down I still loved him and did not want him to spend eternity in hell.

1 Pet 3:1-6 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. Do not let your adornment be merely outward; arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel; rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

Eph 5:22-24 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
