Misuse of our Gifts By: Frances M. McCrory-Meservy
One call I remember taught me a vital lesson about using our gifts.
A Registered Nurse called me all upset. She had laid hands on a man and healed him when he came in DOA after an accident. His wife got there shortly thereafter and was totally angry with her.
His wife said she had been married to the man for over 20 years. He was an alcoholic and beat her and their children. He had totaled his car while drunk and died at the scene. God had finally released her from this mean man and here this well meaning RN had brought him back to life. She was furious.
The RN was crying when she called. She said that she asked Jesus if she had done the right thing. He told her she should have consulted him first because the manís wife was correct. The man was never going to change and He had indeed released the family from this cruel man.
I prayed with this sweet RN that God would forgive her and guide her in using the gift He had given her. I assured her that God forgave her and gave her scripture to encourage her.
She called back two weeks later and said that the same man was brought back in DOA. He had been drinking and was in another fatal accident. This time she did not lay hands on him and his family was finally free.
She taught me through her experience that we are not to just go around willy-nilly using our gifts. We are supposed to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit so they will be used in love.
Mat 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Mat 18:18 "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Mat 21:21-22 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
Mat 26:42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done."
Mark 11:23-24 "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
