Doctrine of the Trinity Frances M. Meservy @ 1981

Right after school was out in May 1981, our nephew from Delaware came to visit. Mitch was 18 and in between school and the air force. We were pleased to have him so we could get to know him better. He was a delightful guest.

I had casually searched for the Trinity in the Bible to no avail. In my spirit I knew it was correct but had not been able to correctly divide the word and find it.

Mitch had been raised Jehovah Witness and did not believe in the trinity (one God in three parts). One day he came in and said, "Aunt Frances if you can show me the Trinity in the Bible, I will believe it is true. I bowed my head and silently prayed, "Lord I can take this on faith but this child needs it in black and white." Instantly I had scripture going through my head and where to find it. In five minutes I had it all put together for Mitch. Wow! Maybe I should have asked God before now.

The following scripture is what God gave me and then he gave me a picture of an old doll I had when I was a child. The hands, arms, legs and head would pop of the body and then could be popped back on. It was made that way so each part would turn independently.

God showed me that if I pretended that the doll was Him and popped the right hand off and threw it on the ground, it would be all God yet only part of God. This was the Holy Spirit that draws us to God and gives us the power to accept Him.

If I popped the right arm off and threw it on the ground, it would be all God yet only part of God. This was Jesus who God sent as man to save us.

If I popped off the head and threw it on the ground, it would be all God yet only part of God. This is the Father who commands all the parts to move and tells them what to do.

IE: The head (Father) speaks, the arm (Jesus) moves and the hand (Holy Spirit) does. This is how we are made like God so that we can understand the Triune God (one but in three parts).

I explained it to Mitch and then gave him all the scripture that God had given me. He went to study the scripture and later said he now believed the Trinity was correct.

I reread the Old Testament and everywhere God spoke I highlighted in green to represent the Father (head). Everywhere it talked about the arm of God I highlighted in red to represent Jesus (arm). Everywhere it talked about God’s hand I highlighted in blue to represent the Holy Spirit. The results were the Bible in a nutshell. It was one of the most eye-opening studies I have ever done.

One God

Isa 43:10-11 "You are My witnesses," says the LORD, "And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no savior.

Father

Exo 6:10 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

Deu 2:2 "And the LORD spoke to me, saying:

Josh 1:1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying:

2 Sam 23:2-4"The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue. The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me: 'He who rules over men must be just, Ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, Like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain.'

Psa 94:11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile.

Isa 34:16-17 "Search from the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them. He has cast the lot for them, And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line. They shall possess it forever; From generation to generation they shall dwell in it."

Isa 64:8 But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.

Mat 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

Col 2:18-19 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

Son (Jesus)

Luke 2:49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"

Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him, And His work before Him.

Isa 40:11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.

Isa 51:5 My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth, And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands will wait upon Me, And on My arm they will trust.

Isa 53:1-12 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our briefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. And they made His grave with the wicked; But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

Mat 26:64 Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Holy Spirit (Hand & Breath of God)

Eccl 9:1 For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.

Isa 43:13 Indeed before the day was, I am He; And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?"

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

Isa 34:16 "Search from the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.

Isa 64:8 But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.

All of God

Psa 44:3 For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them.

Psa 98:1-2 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. The LORD has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.
