Bear Each Other’s Burdens By: Frances M. McCrory-Meservy 1962-1969
Judy was a troubled girl who lived at the Dorm. She confided in Nikki and me that she was gay and hated herself for it. Nikki and I were always there to listen and encourage her. To everyone else, Judy seemed normal; but Nikki and I knew she had tried to commit suicide before and might again. We kept a close eye on her and involved her in everything we could to keep her busy. After Judy graduated, I didn’t hear from her for about a year.
Judy called me at work one day and said she was suicidal. Would I please come over and help her get past the suicidal thoughts. I took a couple of days off from work and stayed with her. We talked all night and into the next day.
I asked her why she thought she was gay. She said that only a woman could satisfy her. She had tried with men and was just left frustrated. I explained to her that sex was not love. Sex was a gift from God to be a wonderful expression of love between a husband and wife. Until she was in love, she would not be satisfied.
We prayed together that God would take away the lustful desires so she could live a good, fulfilling & productive life. Judy did not accept Jesus that day but she started seeking.
I found out that she made a profession of faith and was baptized after I moved to Chicago. She is married now and has children.
Gal 6:1-3 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
1 Cor 7:7-9 For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
Gal 6:7-9 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
