Al & Fran sailing around Clear Lake taken by the people we bought the Laguna 24 (our favorite boat) from
Empty Nest April 1987 by Frances M. McCrory-Meservy
Al was going back to work at Beech and that was over 50 miles away. We put the house up for sale and it sold an hour after the newspaper came out.
When we got home from work we told our children that we had sold the house and asked if they would like to move to the southeast side with us or stay on the northwest side of Houston.
Stephie and David had good jobs and decided to get an apartment together and stayed on the Northwest side. Al and I found an apartment in the Clear Lake area (a few blocks from NASA) and a couple of blocks from Joe & Aleta.
We rented a U-haul and a couple of men to load the truck. As one of the men was loading the truck, he kept noticing Christian things as we packed the last boxes. He made the comment that he could never believe in God because he could not believe in anything he could not see.
Fran: "Oh, then the wind does not exist!"
Driver: "Of course it does."
Fran: "But you can’t see it so it must not exist."
Driver: "Yes. But I can feel it."
Fran: "You can feel God too. If you accept him, he will give you a peace and joy like you have never experienced in your life."
Driver: "I’ll have to think about that."
After we were unpacked in our new home, Al and I just sat and looked at each other. It was the first time since 1966 that we were alone (without children). Al asked, "What did we used to like to do." I answered, "Go bowling and sailing." We got up and went out and bought a sailboat, bowling balls, deck shoes and bowling shoes.
We started bowling and sailing and never had time to have empty nest syndrome. We had a blast with each other and good friends.
I went to work for Kelly Girl and was working at Rockwell Space full time in the Human Resources Department. I really enjoyed that job. I got to help people fly in for interviews and help them move (set up the movers, guest housing, rental cars, etc) and expense accounts.
John 3:8 "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
1 Th 4:9-12 But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; and indeed you do so toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.
Acts 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
