OIL AND WATER  By: Frances M. McCrory-Meservy August, 1994

I went to bed about 10 PM and as my head hit the pillow, I found myself standing next to Jesus. I felt very comfortable as if I was standing next to my best friend. We were looking down on a congregation. It was impressed upon me that what I was looking at was evil.

Someone was on the podium speaking and several people were trying to listen. Some people were speaking in tongues while others were laughing. Some were dancing and others were talking.

Fran: "Lord, what is wrong with these people?"

Jesus: "Too much oil. They are worshiping the oil and it has made them selfish."

Fran: "I don’t see any oil."

Jesus: "It’s there."

Fran: "Lord, how do you fix it?"

Jesus: "Water."

Fran: "Lord, oil and water don’t mix."

Jesus: "Yes it does. "

Fran: "Lord, wouldn’t it be better to use detergent and dissolve the oil?"

Jesus: "No, just water to dilute it. "

Fran: "OK."

I was back in bed.

Fran: "Lord, why did you show me this?"

Jesus: "Because you asked."

Fran: "When did I ask, Lord?"

Instantly I remembered. My husband, Al, and I were at the Southwest believer’s convention in Fort Worth, Texas about two weeks earlier. Kenneth Copeland was speaking and several people started having bursts of laughter. I thought, "what is this, Lord?" Bro. Copeland immediately said, "someone just asked what the laughter is. It is the anointing of laughter. It is from God." I thought, "it’s distracting but OK."

The rest of the week, no matter where we sat, the person sitting next to me was speaking in tongues and I could not hear the speaker. The last night, I bowed my head and asked, "Lord, what is wrong with these people."

My husband, Al paid $300 for the whole set of tapes so I could listen to the sermons later at home.

I had heard so many sermons on the anointing that I immediately realized the oil represents the anointing (gifts and calling) we receive from God.

I pondered what my Lord had shown me for a couple of days. On the way from Wichita KS to Houston TX I leaned my seat back and tried to take a nap. In touch came on the radio and Bro. Stanley was teaching about Gods Love. I realized the water represents the Holy Spirit in me that produces fruit so I can love others the way God loves me.

I realized that God wants us to use our gifts but we should not worship them and we are to always use them in love. Consideration for other people is very important. There is no peace or kindness or goodness or self-control when we use our gifts indiscriminately without the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

I also understood how there would come a day when people who healed people and cast demons out of people would be told by Jesus, "Depart from me for I never knew you." It is better to feed the poor and give water to the thirsty with the quiet fruit of love than to misuse the gifts. We forget that Satan can mimic the gifts but he can not mimic the Fruit of the Spirit.

Who is Jesus' Friend

John 15:14-15 You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned, from my Father I have made known to you.

James 2:23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God.

John 15:9-19 "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.  These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.  This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.  You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.  No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.  You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.  These things I command you, that you love one another.  If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Oil/Anointing

Luke 4:18-9 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."

James 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

John 4:14 "but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

Gal 5:22 - 23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

1 Cor 12:1 - 11 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that , no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills..

1 Cor 13:1-8 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

1 Cor 13:13-14:4 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

1 Cor 14:32 - 40 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant. Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.

Water/Love

1 Cor 13:18 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

John 4:9-14 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? "Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?" Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, "but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

John 7:37-39 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Mat 7:20 - 23 "Therefore by their fruits you will know them. "Not Everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

Mat 5:43-48 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? "And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Mat 22:37-40 Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

John 14:15-18 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.  And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Rom 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
