Interpretation of tongues - to relate what someone who is speaking in another language is saying; To translate from one language to another what someone is saying;
Definition: noun: an act, process, or instance of translating: as a rendering from one language into another; the act or the result of interpreting; to explain or tell the meaning of : present in understandable terms ; to act as an interpreter between speakers of different languages
Example: When I was in college I dated a man from Guatemala. We were with Spanish speaking people often and I got to where I could understand what they were saying even though I could not speak the language. When we went to Quebec, we discovered we knew how to read the road signs in spite of the fact that they were all in French. Our American language is peppered with just enough French that we understood what the signs meant. Each example is a learned thing. The person with the gift of translation knows a language supernaturally. They do not have to learn the language to translate it. If someone with this gift is not present, the person with the gift of tongues should be silent. This is God's will.
Mat 1:23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
Mark 5:41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, "Talitha, cumi," which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, arise."

Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.
Rev 10:11 And he said to me, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings."
