THE INSULT
by Frances M. McCrory-Meservy 1997 A 16 x 80 mobile home was coming in and there was a car in the way parked on the street. I went over, knocked on the door and when Jim poked his head out asked him to move it. It was not the first time I had asked him to move his car off the street.Jim got irate that I would wake him up to move a car and called me a brazen hussy. I pretended he hadn’t said anything and explained that his car was in the way and was in danger of being hit by a house. We talked until he calmed down and moved the car.
After the house was in and set, I went back to the office and asked Jim what a brazen hussy was. He said he didn’t know exactly but it was not a nice term and where did I hear it. I told him what happened and he got up to go beat Jim up. I told him to sit back down and leave it alone because God always took care of things like that for me. I had already given it to Him and he would take care of Jim.
I went home and asked Al what a brazen hussy was. I had the exact same reaction and conversation with him as I had with Jim. I got a dictionary and looked it up. It means a bold bossy woman.
Two weeks later, Jim (my boss) called me and said you have to hear this recording. Jim (tenant) spent at least 30 minutes apologizing to me about how he acted and what he had said.
After that, Jim (tenant) called me once or twice a week and just talked. We became friends and talked about everything from fishing to Jesus. He died a couple of years later and I look forward to seeing him again one day in Heaven.
(Rom 15:1-6 NIV) We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me." For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among your-selves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Mat 5:11-15 NIV) "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
