The Bible clearly says that blasphemy is calling something that is by what it is not. Blasphemy is lying about Godly things. It is also saying you are someone whom you are not. IE people in Revelation who say they are Jews but are, in fact, not. So with this in mind, if you say you are a Christian and are not, you have committed blasphemy.
We call a housewife a domestic engineer, a person who is manic depressive is now called bipolar, a janitor is now a custodian; but the truth is nothing changed except the name. We keep finding what we consider less offensive or more prestigious names to things to make people feel better. Fact of the matter is - if it smells like a rose and looks like a rose, it probably is a rose. I'm not saying these are blasphemy; but if we do that about unimportant things, what will we do about things that matter?
If you are with a group of thieves, will you say you are a thief (this may be blasphemy if you are a Christian)? If you are with a group of Christians, will you say you are a Christian (this would be blasphemy) even though you are not? Some times we allow peer pressure or the desire to fit in to cause us to sin.
If you say you are well when you are not, that is also blasphemy. If this is what we should do, why do we have James 5:14-15? James says to call for the elders of the Church and they will anoint you with oil and pray for you. If you claim to be healed when you are not, you will never do what James says to do and you could lose the blessing of being healed.
There are those who teach that we should "Call things that are not as though they were." It's called speaking things into existence. The only scripture I find on this is God, Himself, calls things that are not as though they were; but then He knows what He is going to create - so he can do that. I do not think it is safe to presume that I am God or equal to Him. Scripture talks about that danger also.
Some teach things are a sin that are not a sin according to scripture and others teach things are not a sin that scripture says is a sin. These are both blasphemy of the scriptures. That is why it is important to know God's word.
The Pharisees said Jesus cast out demons by Satan when in fact it was by the Holy Spirit. Saying someone is possessed with a demon when they are in fact filled with the Holy Spirit is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy of the Holly Spirit is the only unforgiveable sin. Learn to be a fruit inspector. Don't say something is of Satan just because it is something new or something you disagree with. We are all human and humans make mistakes. If you make a mistake, it does not mean you are "of Satan."
Blasphemy - 1 a: the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God b: the act of claiming the attributes of deity; 2: irreverence toward something considered sacred
Isa 37:3-7 And they said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah: 'This day is a day of trouble and rebuke and blasphemy; for the children have come to birth, but there is no strength to bring them forth. 'It may be that the LORD your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'" So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah. And Isaiah said to them, "Thus shall you say to your master, 'Thus says the LORD: "Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me. "Surely I will send a spirit upon him, and he shall hear a rumor and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land."'
Mark 7:18-23 So He said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, "because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?" And He said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, "thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. "All these evil things come from within and defile a man."
Mat 12:22-33 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?" Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons." But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? "And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. "Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad. "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.
Col 3:8-17 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Rev 2:9 "I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
1 Cor 1:27-31 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God; and righteousness and sanctification and redemption; that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD."
2 Pet 2:15-21 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
Rom 4:17 As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.
Isa
14:12-15 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the
morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the
nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into
heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will
also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides
of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I
will be like the Most High. Yet you shall be brought down to
Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.
