How to Rest in the Lord by Frances M. McCrory-Meservy
The reason Jesus' yoke is easy is because He seals us to His Holy Spirit. If we rest in the Lord, He will through the working of the Holy Spirit cause us to will and want His good pleasure. If we want to do something, it is easy to do.
Whatever God wants us to do, He equips us with fruit and gifts to make it easy to do. If we allow God's Holy Spirit to work through us, it will feel like we are just along for the ride. That's true resting in the Lord.
The reason you learn something new each time you read your Bible is because His Holy Spirit teaches you as you read. He knows what you can accept & understand as you grow in the Lord and He will never put more on you than you can bear.
Different people grow at different rates because we are all individuals and God knows our hurt, pain and sorrow we each have suffered in our lives. When we are ready for the next step, He is there waiting to lift you a little higher in your understanding.
Growth in the Lord is a combination of healing our minds and emotions. As our spirits progress, our bodies get healthier. Our burdens get smaller and we feel light hearted no matter what happens around us. God's joy just bubbles up in celebration like a well inside us that just keeps running over.
Love fulfills the Law. Even in this God make it easy for us. He fills us with His Holy Spirit and forgives & loves everyone through us. If He leads us to do something, He does it for us through us via His Holy Spirit. How much easier can it get?
Phil 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Acts 15:28-29 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.
Mark 5:19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you."
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Gal 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
Mat 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' "This is the first and great commandment. "And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
Mat 11:28 - 30 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Psalm 57:2 "I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills His purpose for me."
Mark 6:31-31 And He said to them, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.
Luke 12:22-32 ""And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? "If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. "If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? "And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. "For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. "But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
2 Th 1:3-8 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Heb 3:9-13 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, 'They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways. So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest. Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Heb 4:4-7 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works"; and again in this place: "They shall not enter My rest. Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, "Today," after such a long time, as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts."
1 Pet 1:12-19 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven; things which angels desire to look into. Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
