Liars by Frances M McCrory-Meservy 8 Feb 2013

We can justify a lie all we want to, but it's still an abomination to God and something He hates.

If someone asked your opinion, tell the truth. Most people want the truth when they ask.

A good friend will tell his friend the truth so they won't keep making the same mistake over and over. If they have on an ugly outfit, they need to know it. If there is toilet paper on the bottom of their shoe, they need to know.

The truth is not always pleasant but it does set a person free from mistakes, bad taste, embarrassing moments and most of us want to look our best.  I'd rather someone told me I had a problem before I left home or at least got out of the car than find out after the public sees me.

If you have a friend who is a thief, go talk to him and let him know that if he does not quit, you are going to let others know so it won't be as easy to rob them.  If he persists, follow through.  Love dictates that you protect others from the thief.  When he has to pay the consequences of his actions, he may repent and change his ways.

A true friend will welcome the truth. It may take them a day or week to accept it, so give them the space to let it soak in. Once it does, they will thank you.

People usually lie to cover hate, cover a sin or make themselves look better. We should not hate anyone, should repent if we sin and bearing false witness does not make us look better; it marks us as liars because the truth will eventually come to light.

The truth will always set you free. Even if you go to jail or die for the truth, you will be free.

We are free from Sin because God forgave and died for us. Your spirit will be free from the oppression of guilt and sin even while you are in prison - you will be joyful because of it.

We are free from the sting of death and hell because of the truth. Lies entangle, trap and deceive even the person who is speaking them.

Prov 8:7 My mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

Prov 26:28 A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, And a flattering mouth works ruin.

Prov 28:23 He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue.

Prov 12:17 He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit.

Prov 17:4 An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.

Prov 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles.

Prov 6:16-19 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

Prov 10:18-21 Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool. In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little. The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.

Prov 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles.

Luke 16:24 "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'

James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

1 Pet 3:10-12 For "He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil."

John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"
